Mutton Pepper Fry is one simple, delicious and easy recipe from the Southern state of India, Kerala.
There is so much history behind the food and flavours of Kerala Cuisine. There are so many ethnicities in Kerala and they all have their delicious food. This particular Mutton Pepper Fry is inspired by the Syrian Christian Cuisines of Kerala.
South Indian Cuisine is one of the most flavourful, tastiest (in my opinion), loaded with freshness and spices. Even in South India every state has different type of food, flavours, spices and I love every single dish from this region.
I don’t eat mutton but I love to cook mutton dishes, a few weeks back I decided to make my husband this amazing dish from the State of Kerala. This Mutton Pepper Fry is so easy and delicious, can be a main course or even a starter, my husband absolutely loved it. This recipe is adapted from the book called “The Kerala Kitchen” by “Lathika George”.
I served this dish with Kerala style flaky paratha.

Instructions:
Dry roast the cardamoms, cloves and cinnamon together, make a coarse powder in pestle mortar. Keep it aside.
Boil the mutton in water, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and 1 tbsp coriander powder till it’s cooked and tender. Make sure there is enough liquid in the meat so it doesn’t dry out.
In a thick wok or pan, heat oil, fry shallots, garlic together until golden brown. Add curry leaves, green chillies and fry for 2 minutes.
Add the cooked mutton, all the spices and crushed peppercorns. Sauté for 5 minutes till the meat is well coated with the spices and is brown.
